                                             Fremont

Fremont is blessed with the amazing beauty of the Wolf River, as a part of the Winnebago system, and for that reason alone makes it a hot spot on your journey.  With incredible year round fishing, a plethora of restaurants,  and the welcoming access for boating and water sports, Fremont’s where it’s at.

The hidden treasure of  Fremont caters to all the water babies out there. Even those who aren’t boat owners, but still like to enjoy the Wolf River can find their cup of tea in Fremont.  With boat rentals, the local swimming beach,  tubing, canoeing, and camping all at your fingertips there is always something to do.  On top of that there is a local, pro-owned wakeboarding camp and a Class A water-ski team that is based right out of Fremont.

Partridge Lake is positioned at the northwest end of Fremont.  The lake itself is rather shallow, averaging 4 feet.  However the lake takes good care of its fishermen, producing plenty of panfish, largemouth bass and northern pike.  Located at the entrance to the lake is a large break water, known as “the rock wall” in Fremont.  The Partridge Lake side of that rock wall is known infamously for its sandbar, where the water isn’t much over 3 feet deep.  Everybody and their brother anchors there during our warmest months and makes a day of it.  They set up volleyball nets, take their dogs, relax and enjoy!  It is not unusual to see 100+ boats on a Saturday afternoon on the sandbar soaking up the rays.

Speaking of soaking up the rays, Partridge Lake also has a public swimming beach.  It is located in the Partridge Lake Park at the meeting of Wolf River Drive and Lake Street.  More simply and commonly known as the Fremont Beach.  Although there are no pets allowed and no lifeguard on duty, you can take the family and absorb some sun in the sand and swim till your fingers get wrinkly!  There is an open-sided pavilion with picnic tables, as well as grills and benches available.  Restrooms (with full plumbing…), a payphone, and soda machine are also near the pavilion.  The beach is just for swimming though, no watercraft are allowed.

Even if you don’t have a boat, there is still available fishing in Fremont.  Located at the public mooring pier at the end of West Main Street next to the Bridge Bar and Restaurant, bank fishing is available.  You can also stay on dry land and catch the big one at Fisherman’s Park, established south of Fremont on county highway H, under the new highway 110 bridge.  Access is available at the end of all roads that lead to the river.

Biking in Waupaca County

Marion

The City of Marion is situated on the far north border of Waupaca County. With a population of approximately 1,300 people, Marion is a very progressive community. Marion Body Works and Marion Plywood are its two largest employers. Marion has numerous parks, great eating establishments, and many hard working service organizations such as the Marion Lions Club, Marion Rotary Club, Marion Civic Group, Marion Area Historical Society and the Marion Area Ministerial Association. The Marion Senior/Junior High School and Marion Elementary Schools offer a wonderful opportunity for students to earn an education as well as participate in a host of extra-curricular activities. Our boys baseball team won the WIAA State Championship in 2009 and our girls softball teams have won five state championships. Marion also has a top-ranked public library, and its own police, fire and emergency services.

The beautiful Marion Pond offers fishing, boating and swimming and just recently reconstructed the dam, which when totally completed, will be the main focal point of the city. Marion also has an 18-hole golf course, historical museums, including a log cabin, school house, railroad depot, caboose and a new 60x120 building. Lions Point, which is located on the shores of the Marion Pond offers two enclosed banquet facilities and an open shelter for picnics, reunions, etc. There are also open shelters at Wallace Park (on the pond) and Legion Park, which also has a walking trail.

Most importantly, you'll find that the citizens of Marion are among the most friendly, hard working, proud people you'll ever meet. Stop by some time and find out for yourself.
